It is a good time to re-engage with the word community based on GEN Z’s unprecedented digital activism in Kenya. Technology was used assertively and effectively by a young, tech-savvy Generation Z to create social and political change in a context that least expected the effectiveness of such a movement.
Since our last post in May, it is evident there is an ongoing renaissance of the word Community. It is now prudent and cool to engage with the local community, even if your aim is the global stage. It is such an excellent time to see Kenyans engage directly with policy issues that affect them, such as the ICT Bill 2024. It is now necessary to consider the local implications of technology deployment and management of data to be sensitive, just and responsible in the creation and deployment of Artificial Intelligence.
At THiNK, we are constantly learning and relearning what community is. We have since updated our community of practice page to clearly articulate our work on Artificial Intelligence. But Tech Innovators Network exceeds a focus on Artificial Intelligence as our goal is to harness the collective efforts of techies into a conducive, friendly and encouraging ICT ecosystem. That is why we are significantly involved in Policy work such as the Kenya Bureau of Standards draft AI Code of Practice prepared by the Software Engineering, IT Service Management and Artificial Intelligence Technical Committee (TC94). Underway is the participation and contribution to the National AI Strategy by our tech and policy lead, Brian Omwenga.
As Digital Enablers, our ultimate goal is to empower tech innovators and digital businesses to overcome ecosystem and market access challenges using cutting-edge technology. We provide discovery and collaborative platforms for collective scaling and sustainability. However, we recognize that to achieve this, we must operate within a just, secure, and democratic space.
Please join our community of practice and feel free to engage with us regarding partnerships, events, and any cool community stuff. Check out our Developer Hub on the same website.
