We have spent the year’s first quarter engaging in exciting and impactful work. This community-driven and collaborative work is central to our focus and vision at THiNK.
A relentless focus on people is at the heart of everything we do and create. We want software developers, techies, social scientists, creators, and programmers who are passionate and intentional about technology to converge, collaborate, and co-create.
Co-Creation
Co-creation is central to our belief system because we believe the next best inventions will be collaborative enterprises that sharply diverge from the premise of an all-powerful genius and guru. We want the face of everyone who contributes to the creation of technology, innovation, and success to be acknowledged and rewarded. We believe wonderful and impactful projects beyond financial numbers and digits happen when a community comes together.
However, we know it will be a journey and a half to teach people how to co-create, collaborate and work together. That is why our team at THiNK is dynamic, expansive and all-encompassing. We are seeking partnerships with very diverse people drawn from all over.
We are active members of the Artificial Intelligence Community of Practice in Kenya, and we welcome you to subscribe here: Welcome to this: https://cop.think.ke/
Newsletter Launch
We are launching a newsletter that will keep you updated on community activities that go beyond the confines of our organisation. We are happy when others in our sector succeed and are glad to share our platform. There is no limit to how these people look like, the status they enjoy in the technology sector and anything in between.
One of the projects we are most proud of is the ODPC #lindadata project, as it encapsulates the combination of innovation with a focus on the citizens of Kenya and their well-being. It is an excellent representation of localization.
Localization
Adaptive localization involves modifying content, products, or services to cater to a specific target market or audience’s linguistic, cultural, and functional requirements. This implies that AI can be aligned with the target audience’s language and cultural preferences, creating a seamless and user-friendly experience. The Data Protection Act was enacted in Kenya in 2019. The #LindaData chatbot is a valuable tool that can help raise awareness among data subjects, processors, and controllers. It fills in any information gaps and is available in English, Swahili, and Sheng. Sheng is a version of Kenyan slang that aims to be more inclusive of the youth, who comprise almost 85 per cent of the Kenyan population.
Localization automatically feeds into the growth of the collaborative community.
BOTATHONS in Kisii, Embu and Juja.
Central to the theme of community is the active engagement we had with students from Kisii University, Embu University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. We really enjoyed the energy of the eager students to learn, create and collaborate.
At these Botathons, we discuss pertinent topics such as the transformational power of technology, and we explore community as a valid application and outcome of technology. We can work together, and we can create success.
Some relevant Botathon topics.
Use of #ResponsibleAi
Natural Language processing
Machine Learning
Localization and Digitization.
We also demonstrate the applicability of the students’ learning by exploring the back-end functionalities behind some exciting projects in which we have been actively involved.
We are looking forward to engage and collaborate with you all.
